They do some incredible work and their contributions to assisting people affected with FASD is paramount. They needed a new custom and responsive WordPress site to help share their wealth of knowledge with people in need around the world.
Kee Warner and Peter Richmond, who run the society, were completely open to a new layout so we had some creative freedom. We spent some time reviewing other top charity websites and realized most charity websites have a lot of photos. So, we used photos of kids from their demographic and matched up the colours to their existing brand.
Using the latest design trends, we designed a few templates including the home page, an inner page (I.E. Programs), and a mobile template. We didn't want it to look like a typical WordPress theme, we wanted it to be a bit dramatic, hence the hard-hitting message right off the bat on the homepage.
Their main demographic is people with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) & parents of children with FASD. They mainly serve Vancouver Island and British Columbia, although they do have people who attend programs from all over the world, even as far as Ireland.
The priority was to draw attention to registering for their programs and donations. We thought it would be a cool idea to incorporate a bit of a west coast feel while still maintaining a heavy charity focus.
Overall, our goal was to deliver a high end, modern, and custom looking charity site, with a big focus on responsive/user-friendliness, and a basic resemblance to their current site.
